BlissLights Sky Lite 2.0 Star Projector

Point it at the ceiling and a bedroom turns into a slow-moving night sky: a field of drifting blue stars over a color-shifting nebula cloud. The BlissLights Sky Lite 2.0 gets that look from a direct diode laser, precision glass optics and holographic technology packed into a compact unit about 6.25 inches tall.

There are two ways to run it. Buttons on the unit cycle through light effects, change the brightness and start or stop the rotating motion, or a phone app connects over Bluetooth to do the same. BlissLights notes that the app does not ask for location or storage access, a nice detail for a parent setting it up on a kid’s phone. It runs off the included AC power adapter, so there are no batteries to swap.

It suits a teen redoing a bedroom or a gaming corner who wants more atmosphere than a strip of LEDs. BlissLights pitches it for home theaters and gaming setups, and it works just as well as a calm light for winding down at night or a movie on a laptop.

The catch: it needs a dark room and a clear ceiling to look its best, and the cord means it has to sit near an outlet. It’s a laser light, so aim it at the ceiling, not at anyone’s face.
