Rumpl Original Puffy Blanket

There’s a clip at one edge of the Rumpl Original Puffy Blanket, so when the fire burns down you can stand up, fasten it at your neck and wear the whole thing as a cape. Rumpl calls it the Cape Clip. The blanket itself is built from the same kind of materials as a sleeping bag or insulated jacket: a ripstop shell over synthetic fill, 52 by 75 inches.

The insulation is 100 percent post-consumer recycled, and the shell has a PFAS-free water-repellent finish that sheds spilled drinks, sand, dirt and pet hair. Paracord loops at the corners let you stake it down on a windy beach. It rolls into a 7 by 16 inch roll-top stuff sack, weighs 2.2 pounds and goes straight in the washing machine after the trip. This one is the Baja Fade colorway.

Give it to the camper who is always cold after sunset, the friend who brings a blanket to every outdoor concert, or the dog owner whose dog is going to claim it anyway.

The catch: it’s a blanket, not a sleeping bag, so it won’t replace one on a truly cold night, and at 2.2 pounds it’s better suited to car camping than to ultralight trips.
