HypnoCube Animated Light Sculpture

The HypnoCube is for the person who can lose a few minutes watching colors rearrange themselves. Its 64 RGB LEDs can each display 4,096 colors, so this is less “light that changes color” and more a tiny abstract light show. Anyone whose idea of decoration includes something to stare at will enjoy getting it as a gift.

There are 51 basic visualizations and more than 10 transition effects, but the interesting part is how it mixes them. Colors, timing, symmetry, and transitions are randomized, while the palette morphs smoothly between colors. Speed varies too, giving the patterns another way to change rather than simply cycling through a fixed routine.

It even saves its random cycle seed between power-ups, making a repeated visualization cycle extremely unlikely. That is a wonderfully nerdy amount of thought to put into something you mostly watch. The appeal here is the ongoing visual distraction, not just the initial blink.
