Speks Geode Magnetic Sphere

Speks Geode looks like a faceted crystal ball sitting on the desk, right up until you pull it apart. It’s a set of geometric pieces with rare earth magnets inside, and they snap together into a sphere, a tower, a lumpy sculpture or whatever shape your hands drift toward during a long conference call.

The fun is in the snap. Pieces click into place with a satisfying pull, you can shake a build loose and start over, and there’s no wrong way to put it back together. Speks makes it as a fidget and focus tool for keeping restless hands busy, and it doubles as a desk ornament between sessions. Assembled, it sits there looking like a geode with the rock knocked off.

It suits the guy who clicks pens, spins his ring or takes apart whatever is on the table while he thinks. As a stocking stuffer, it tends to migrate to the office sometime in January and never come home.

The catch: it’s rated for ages 14 and up, because the pieces hold strong rare earth magnets. It belongs on a grown-up’s desk, well out of reach of small kids.
