Universal Self-Adjusting Socket

Most of us own a drawer of sockets and still end up hunting for the one that fits. This one skips the hunt. Inside the housing are 54 steel rods, each on its own spring. Press the end over a hex nut, an eye bolt, or a lag screw head, and the rods shift to match its outline, then hold that shape while you turn. The body is chrome vanadium steel, and it covers fasteners from 1/4 to 3/4 inch and 7 to 19 mm.

It makes the most sense for a handy dad or a DIYer who moves between furniture assembly, carpentry, and small auto jobs. It is compact enough to sit in a glovebox or a tool bag. The fit is immediate, so as a stocking stuffer it leaves nothing to memorize about sizes and nothing to dig for.

The trade-off is grip. Rods pressing against a fastener cannot match a fitted socket, so I would not trust it on tight, stubborn fasteners or anything that needs real torque. Treat it as the quick-fit tool he grabs first, with the proper set still in the drawer for the heavy work.
