A guest pulls a few sheets of toilet paper and hears, “Thank you for your contribution.” That’s the whole appeal of the Talking Toilet Paper Spindle: a small, unnecessary announcement arriving at a moment when nobody expects the bathroom to have an opinion. For a white elephant exchange with a crowd that enjoys harmless pranks, it’s an easy joke to explain without spoiling the delivery.

The recording hardware sits inside the spindle, which takes the place of the usual one in a standard toilet paper roll and holder. Press the record button to save your message; Gagster says you get six seconds. Movement of the roll triggers playback, so there’s no separate button for the unsuspecting guest to press. You can record over the message when it gets stale, or use a brief sound or bit of music instead.

It needs two AAA batteries, which aren’t included. And the joke depends on the household: a roommate who enjoys a talking appliance is a better audience than a guest who values a quiet bathroom. Keep the recording short and polite. The surprise is doing most of the work.
