Vintage-Style Ghost Bookmark

A glossy white ghost in an ornate, antique bronze-colored frame looks like a miniature portrait with an unexpected sitter. The contrast between the cute ghost and the elaborate frame is what makes this worth a second look. It has a gothic mood without asking a little specter to be particularly frightening.

The metal clip slips over the top of a book to mark your place, and it’s lightweight and reusable. That suits a reader who enjoys decorative objects but still wants them to do a job. I like the choice to frame the ghost instead of leaving it as a shape on its own. The ornament gives a simple spooky figure a bit of ceremony.

Each bookmark is handmade, with small variations and imperfections in the finish. Those details matter if you prefer a uniform finish. For readers drawn to old-fashioned ornament and friendly spookiness, though, this is a useful excuse to keep a little Halloween on the reading pile beyond October.
