Spider knives have gained a reputation among outdoor and survival enthusiasts as a reliable tool that also offers an unusual amount of style in addition to strong substance. This company makes a variety of excellent knives, although when it comes to the MTECH USA Xtreme MX-8042BR knife, also referred to as a "fantasy folding knife," it has a few more reservations than some of the other models manufactured by this company such as the assisted black & red spider rescue knife or the Spider spring assist rescue knife. So what does this mean for the MX-8042BR? Well let's take a closer look!

The first thing that sticks out is the design. No matter what else is said, let's face it: that is a really cool looking knife. The red and black colors work well with both spider and web appearing on the handle, but even a touch of silver web on black blade fully brings home the effect. People will notice when your knife is open.

This 4.5 inch blade is made of stainless steel and partially serrated to give you the full range of options. The blade is easily sharpened and can hold a very solid point. No one can argue with the convenience of the well built in belt clip. You can attach it and it's there when you need it. Despite not being as popular as some other spider knives, this model still carries a high 4.5 star rating on Amazon.

So is there anything not to like? There does seem to be one complaint that comes up consistently among the poor reviews. While the far majority of these knives are built to standard, there are a few that have had reports of loose screws causing problems when opening the knife, making the blade wobbly when using, or even having the support structure fall apart. This is easily repairable with a good screwdriver but come on - that shouldn't be something you have to deal with when you get a new knife.

This information has to give a bit of a pause, but when you're dealing with the majority of well put together models, you're looking at a quality knife that is easy to carry, looks stunning, and will get the job done for basic use.

This is a super cool pocket knife for Spiderman fans everywhere. Not only do the handle and blade have awesome designs, but the blade is also easy to pull out, and the handle is comfortable to hold. Useful and fun to look at. Doesn’t get much better than that!
