First, this pineapple ice tray is adorable and is actually shaped like a pineapple. Second, the pineapple ice that the tray makes really look like mini pineapples and you can make 12 at a time.
Remember, you can make lots of things with an ice tray. You can use chocolate. You can use jello. You can use pudding. You can use it to make candy. I think some people use ice trays to make soap too. So, you can use it for lots of DIY crafts and cooking projects.
The tray is made out of food quality plastic and I believe it is dishwasher safe (not 100% sure on this though). The tray is not hard plastic but flexible plastic so you will need to hold it with both hands or a hard surface under the tray.
This product's purpose is both simple and specific. It makes pineapple shaped ice. You simply pour water into the pineapple ice cube tray, put it in the freezer, wait, and you have pineapple shaped ice. Although this product is primarily an ice tray, it can also be used to make pineapple shaped jello, frozen pudding, chocolate, or just about anything else that can be shaped in an ice tray. Each tray is 21 by 10.5 by 2 centimeters and makes a dozen pineapple shaped pieces of ice.
The tray is made from food grade Thermal plastic rubber. It will initially have a plastic smell. To get rid of this smell, all you need to do is to soak it in warm water for about 15 minutes. The tray comes in a bunch of different colors, but you don't get to choose which color you get. Something else to keep in mind is the simple fact that ice melts, so your ice cubes wont hold its shape for long once they're out of the freezer and in your beverage.
From what I can tell, making pineapple shaped ice has little to no practical use. However, this product could certainly be something neat to use when you're having guests over. I doubt it will blow them away, but it'll probably make them say something like, "Oh hey, you've got pineapple shaped ice, that's pretty neat." I could also see this being used for parties. You could serve your guests pina coladas with pineapple shaped ice or make pineapple shaped jello snacks. The product is relatively cheap, so it might be worth purchasing if only for the novelty of it.
When you saw this product you probably either thought, "this looks like the most useless thing in the world," or "this looks interesting." If you're in the former category, you won't want to buy it, but if you're in the latter category, it may be worth giving it a shot.
